Incorporating the idea of garden upcycling, PCF Sparkletots @ Bishan East-Sin Ming Blk 197 embarked on a journey of creatively repurposing recyclable storage materials to grow plants in them for the project.
Plastic bottles and juice cartons were used in the process – the students immersed in designing their planters after receiving assistance with cutting them.

Arriving at the main part of the project, a virtual session was held with one of the students’ parents who generously shared her knowledge on food sustainability and clear guidance on growing two different plants - wheatgrass and maplepea. Through this, the value and importance of practicing upcycling is inculcated in the students.

Overall, it was a fulfilling learning experience for the students, and they even got to continue the process by bringing their individual plants home and harvested them for meals! Through the project, the students’ senses are fully engaged during the learning process and truly grasp the meaning behind their actions and contributions.
